The BiLock EX (or BiLock NG, BiLock New Generation) is a UL 437-rated dual-sidebar lock made by BiLock. The BiLock EX uses twelve pins arranged in two rows of six. Each row of pins uses a separate sidebar located at 3 and 9 o'clock in the plug. The BiLock NG is easily identified by the U-shaped key and keyway.
Principles of operation
The BiLock uses two rows of six pin-tumbler pins and five sidebar finger pins. To open the lock, all pin-tumblers properly raised to a height that allows the side bar legs to retract into small holes located in the key pins. Every pin has a second, shallow hole drilled in it. This hole is deep enough to allow the pin to set under sidebar pressure but too shallow to allow the sidebar to fully retract.

BiLocks are unique because they contain no driver/top pins and therefore the lock has no traditional shear line. There are ? depths for pin-tumblers, allowing for ? theoretical key differs for each pin stack. The MACS for this lock is ? depths, giving the ? around ? real key differs. Master keying is available by using pins with wider sidebar holes.

The BiLock EX also has what is traditionally known as an interactive element in the key that was implemented to add an extra layer of security and extend the original patent of the lock. BiLock refers to this element as a "trigger" which is held between the two blades by the plastic key head. In its rest position the Trigger protrudes through a small opening in the key blade. As the key enters the keyway, the bottom of the keyway channel forces the front of the trigger upward into a lift pin. When the lift pin is raised, it drags a blocking bar up and out of the way of the right side bar, allowing it to retract.

The 6000 uses six pin-tumbler pins and five sidebar finger pins. To open the lock, all pin-tumblers must be aligned at the shear line and all finger pins must be properly aligned with the sidebar legs. Balanced pin stacks are used to resist attack from comb picks as well as reduces wear on the springs. Driver pins come in four sizes and use a modified spool design which is combined with counter-milling in the plug chambers to provide high pick resistance. There are nine depths for pin-tumblers, allowing for 531,441 (96) theoretical key differs for the pin-tumbler portion of the lock. The MACS for this lock is five depths, giving the 6000 around 160,000 real key differs. Master keying is available using traditional pin-tumbler master pins available in six sizes.

Unlike many other sidebar locks, the Twin 6000 finger pins are identical. Cuts are made on the sidebar directly and finger pins must be raised to match these positions. All finger pins use serrations above and below the true gate to provide manipulation resistance. Rekeying of the sidebar portion of the lock is only possibly when the sidebar is physically replaced or flipped upside-down. This interaction between finger pins and sidebar gates frustrates traditional decoding attacks that attempt to measure the range of movement of the finger pins. There are five depths available for finger pins, givin the Twin 3,125 theoretical sidebar differs (55). There are 2,800 real sidebar differs, using 1400 sidebars that can be flipped in either orientation. Keys are stamped with a five digit indirect sidebar bitting code.

To provide resistance against destructive entry, the 6000 uses hardened steel pins in the front of the plug and near the sidebar and third and fourth pin-stacks. In addition, driver pins are made of stainless steel to frustrate drilling of the pin stacks.
Disassembly instructions
The 6000 is disassembled in the same way as a traditional pin-tumbler cylinder. The sidebar does not cause too many problems when the plug is removed. When the key is removed from the exposed plug the finger pins will be forced out by spring pressure.

Vulnerabilities
The 6000 system may be vulnerable to one or more of the following:

* Lockpicking
* Impressioning
* Decoding
* Key bumping

Notes
* Bumping is possible given a bump key with the correct sidebar bitting.

High Security Locks
High security locks are locks that provide increased resistance to compromise. While many vendors market their locks as high security, only those that are given an approriate security rating (or have withstood a long period of analysis by manufacturers and locksport enthusiasts) are considered high security. Most high security locks use certain designs or characteristics that improve their ability to resist manipulation and forced entry for a given amount of time.

__TOC__

High Security Characteristics
Most high-security locks have many of the following included in their design to increase security. Many of these characterstics are pre-requisites for various security ratings.

; Restrictive Keyways
: The use of complex and paracentric keyways frustrate attacks by manipulation by making it harder to insert and manuever tools within the lock.

; Key Control
: The ability to control the creation, distribution, and cutting of keys for a given lock can greatly increase the security of the keying system for a given lock. Most high security locks have key bows and warding patterns that are patent protected to prevent unauthorized manufacturing. Keys to high security locks also generally require a security card be presented for a locksmith to duplicate keys. Many also require a specialized key cutting machine.

; Key Differs
: High security locks traditionally offer a very high number of real and theoretical key differs to prevent cross keying and allow for complex master keying configurations.

; Manipulation Resistance
: Almost all high-security locks have components designed to resist manipulation from lockpicking and decoding attacks. Security pins are the most popular example of anti-manipulation components in pin-tumbler locks. Some locks also have components designed to resist impressioning and key bumping.

; Destructive/Forced Entry Resistance
: All high-security locks use strong materials and designs that make them resistance to destructive entry techniques. Steel rods, ball bearings, and hardened materials are common.

; High Manufacturing Tolerances
: Increased concern over the tolerance of components to provide a manipulation-resistant and functional lock accompanies most high-security locks. Increased tolerances also help to increase the number of available component sizes or depths and promote longevity of the lock.

In general, the locksport community is much more critical of security than any rating and standard organizations.

Lockpicking is the art of opening a lock through the analysis and manipulation of its components without using a key intended to open the lock. The process is generally non-destructive and covert, and is contrasted with various forms of destructive entry. When dealing with the opening of safes or vaults, it is referred to as safecracking. A bypass is technically different than picking the lock, though there are many similarities between the two techniques.

Lockpicking is made possible by small irregularities during the manufacturing of locks. Small variations in the size, shape, and alignment of components allows for picking tools to be used to pick the lock. Depending on the type of lock, different methods of picking may be available.

History
Add to me!

Picking Methods
There are various methods used to successfully pick a lock. There is no "right" way to pick; every lockpicker has their own preference. The most common types of picking are listed:

;Single Component Picking
:A pick designed to manipulate individual components is used. Single pin picking focuses on the irregularities of each individual component to determine the order of binding and proper position of each component. Commonly referred to as single "pin" picking, but applicable to non-pin locks, too. Though many pick types are suitable, the classic hook shaped pick is most appropriate.

;Raking
:A pick designed to manipulate many (or all) components is used. Raking focuses on rapidly varying the position of components in the lock to simulate a wide variety of key depths. Raking is especially effective if the proper position of components is in a predictable pattern, such as a staircase. Picks specifically designed for raking are known as rakes.

;Pick Guns
:A pick gun is designed to hit the bottom of all pins and transfer energy to the pin stacks to allow for rapid opening of the lock mechanism. Vibration picks fall into this same category.

;Bump Keys
:A key with depth cuts to the lowest positions. Key bumping is a fundamental problem in most pin tumbler locks that allows for energy transfer between the bump key and the pin stacks to allow for rapid opening of the lock mechanism. This is similar in function to the use of a pick gun.

;Tryout Keys
:A set of keys modified to different depth positions. Tryout keys take advantage of poor tolerances in locking components. While most locks represent themselves as having a large amount of theoretical key differs, some have very few due to poor tolerances.

;Comb Picks
:A pin-tumbler pick designed to move all pin stacks out of their blocking position by pushing them into the cylinder chambers, allowing the plug to rotate freely.

;Impressioning
:The process of duplicating or otherwise simulating the action of a proper key for the target lock. Impression can take many forms, some of which are not strictly classified as lockpicking.

;Decoding
:The process of decoding the position of internal components either through manipulation of components, disassembly of the lock, or analysis of the key. Decoding can take many forms, most of which are not strictly classified as lockpicking.

Tools Used
The specific tools used to open the look depend on the design of the lock and the preferences of the lockpicker.

Traditional picking of most locks involves both a pick and tension tool. The pick is used to manipulate internal components to their unlocked position and the tension tool is used to hold the components in place and retract the locking bolt once the lock is picked. When all components are in the unlocked position the lock is free to open and considered picked. This applies to pin-tumbler, tubular/axial, dimple, and lever locks.

Warded locks are distinct because they do not require a tension tool to be picked; only the picking tool is used.

Combination locks generally do not require tools unless they are a hybrid locking design. Most combination locks are opened with decoding or bypass rather than picking.

Legality
:See Legal Issues.

Lockpicking in the Media
Lockpicking has been portrayed in many television shows and films. Often techniques and tools are incorrect, with the most common mistake being the lack of a tension tool. In most cases the lock is picked almost instantly, which misrepresents the difficulty and skill involved in picking the majority of locks.
