== History ==

KABA (then known as Bauer AG) was founded in 1862 by locksmith Franz Bauer of Zurich, Switzerland. The company produced cash machines and offered locksmithing services. In 1915 Bauer AG was purchased by Leo Bodmer. In 1934, their first locking cylinder was patented, named 'Kassenbauer'. '''Ka'''ssen'''ba'''uer translates to "Cash Bauer", a tribute to the founder of the company. The name of this lock was shortened to KABA. Locks from then on often had the KABA name included, but it wasn't until 1995 that Bauer Holding AG was renamed to Kaba Holding AG.<ref>[http://www.kaba.com/en/About-Kaba/History/13998_13998/history.html About KABA: History]</ref> Since the renaming of the company, all child companies now include the KABA name.
