The '''8500''' is a [[UL Group 1]] [[combination]] lock made by [[Sargent and Greenleaf]]. It is mainly used on [[safes]] and [[vaults]].

== Principles of Operation ==
The 8500 uses a spring mechanism to prevent the [[fence]] from touching the [[wheel pack]] during dialing. There is a U-shaped spring connecting the [[lever]] to the case. Unless the gates are aligned properly, this spring will not allow the nose to rest on the drive cam.
