The BiLevel (or Medeco3 BiLevel) is a pin-tumbler lock manufactured by Medeco. Unlike Medeco's other systems which use axial rotation, the BiLevel uses pin-tumblers and a traditional shear line as the primary locking mechanisms. Medeco advertises the BiLevel for key control rather than security against picking and destructive entry. [1]
The BiLevel is a lower security form of the Medeco M3. It is easily identified by the "m3B" logo to the left of the keyway.
Principles of operation
Unlike Medeco's other systems that use axial rotation to properly position pin-tumblers with sidebar legs, the BiLevel uses a sidebar that only interfaces with the M3 slider component. The BiLevel is marketted as a lower security (and cheaper) version of the M3 that can be integrated into existing M3 systems.
Disassembly Instructions
The BiLevel can be disassembled in the same way as a standard pin-tumbler mechanism with consideration for the sidebar and slider components.
- Remove the cam or C-clip.
- Insert the key and turn the plug 45-90 degrees.
- Withdraw the plug from the cylinder. (A plug follower is recommended)
OR
- Remove the chamber casings and take out each pin-stack individually
- Remove the cam or C-clip.
- Withdraw the plug from the cylinder.
Vulnerabilities
The Medeco BiLevel may be vulnerable to one or more of the following:
