FAB Dynamic belonged to a resistance class 4, which is the highest resistance class FAB offers. It has very distinct look with pretty much warding-less keyway and two plastic stripes on the upper side of the core.
Description
The lock contains five pin stacks, all containing standard drivers and also four pairs of sliders, actuated by tracks on both sides of the key. The slider tracks on both sides of the key have different patterns. Unlike most slider designs, there are no sidebars; the sliders directly interact with bible holes below and above the core. Sliders are stamped from a sheet metal and they have a number stamped on them, identifying the slider "height". Slider binds both when it is pushed too high and too low; when a slider is pushed up, it can even protrude out from the lock bible a bit. Due to that the slider holes on the top of the bibile are covered by two plastic strips; these strips both protect these holes against dust/debris and give in when a slider needs to go above the bible level.
The profile has almost no warding, indicating designer's faith in the sliders.
The key blanks were restricted and key can be cut or copied only when locksmith is presented with a security card.
There is also version called Dynamic Plus, that was used in master keying systems; it features six pins and five slider pairs.
Dissassembly instructions
To disassemble a double euro cylinder, use of a pinning shoe is the preferred method. If disassembly is performed without a key, a care must be taken not to disturb the slider position during the core removal.
Other possibility is to use a segmented follower, but that requires that both cores are pulled out a bit to allow a cam removal. Then a core should be rotated to approximately 4:30 or 7:30 o'clock position (135 degrees either clockwise or anti-clockwise) to prevent driver entering a gaps for the cam clutch. Then a segmented follower can be used to remove the core.
Vulnerabilities
The FAB Dynamic is vulnerable to one or more of the following:
- Lockpicking
- Decoding
- Key bumping - when sliders are held in the correct position
- Impressioning
