The Stanley Vidmar lock is a pin-tumbler lock designed for industrial and commercial use. It was introduced in 1964 and is used primarily in Stanley Vidmar's modular storage systems and tool cabinets. The lock is known for its durability, simplicity, and unique keyways that resist unauthorized duplication.

The Stanley Vidmar Lock is a traditional pin-tumbler design integrated into a cam lock system. Turning the key rotates a cam to secure or release a compartment. It has been widely used in environments requiring reliable and tamper-resistant locking mechanisms.

Principles of Operation

The Stanley Vidmar Lock uses five or six pin stacks in a standard pin-tumbler configuration. When the correct key is inserted, the pins align at the shear line, allowing the plug to rotate. This rotation actuates the cam mechanism at the back of the lock, which secures or releases the storage unit.

The lock's design includes a unique keyway profile, making unauthorized key duplication more difficult. It is built with hardened components to resist forced entry and drilling.

Disassembly Instructions

Disassembly of the Stanley Vidmar Lock is straightforward and follows standard procedures for pin-tumbler locks:

  1. Remove the cam or C-clip.
  2. Insert the key and turn the plug 45-90 degrees.
  3. Withdraw the plug from the cylinder. (A plug follower is recommended)

OR

  1. Remove the chamber casings and take out each pin-stack individually
  2. Remove the cam or C-clip.
  3. Withdraw the plug from the cylinder.

Steps:

Remove the Retaining Clip or Nut: Located at the back of the cylinder. Withdraw the Cylinder: Push or pull the lock cylinder out of its housing. Access the Pin Stacks: Use a plug follower to remove the plug without displacing the pins.
