Sargent & Greenleaf is one of the oldest and well-known high-security lock manufacturers in the United States. They are best known for their electronic combination locks, mechanical safe locks, and high-security padlocks used by the United States military.
History
The James Sargent Lock Company was founded in 1857 by James Sargent.[1] In 1865, Sargent partnered with a Halbert Greenleaf, a former employer. The company was renamed to Sargent & Greenleaf and began operations in Rochester, NY. In 1869 the company got the first of many government contracts to design and produce safe locks for the U.S. Treasury Department. During World War I and II they produced a wide variety of builder's hardware as well as many lock and safe designs.
