In 1869 the company got the first of many government contracts to design and produce safe locks for the U.S. Treasury Department.[2] During World War I and II they produced a wide variety of builder's hardware as well as many lock and safe designs. In 1974, S&G relocated to their current home of Nicholasville, Kentucky. In the late 1980s Sargent & Greenleaf began producing a variety of high-security padlocks for the U.S. government.
