The 334 series of padlocks is a rekeyable series of 45mm padlocks from Lockwood. The series features a basic brass-body model (334B45), a stainless steel variant (334S45), a stainless steel closed-shackle variant (334C45), and a marine grade steel variant (334M45).

The 334B45 variant is the most common rekeyable lock body sold by Lockwood in Australia. It, along with the Abus 83/45, make up the majority of rekeyable padlock bodies sold and used in Australia today. This is due to most locksmiths currently offering the 334B45 body as standard to customers purchasing any of Lockwood's restricted keyways or high-security cylinders. Locksmiths offering MLAA keyways also offer the 334B45 padlock body as standard.

Features

Pinning

The 334 series contains 5 pins, and can be repinned to 6. These pins are all Lockwood shallow spools, except for one standard pin. It isn't uncommon to come across a second-hand 334 series padlock with all shallow spools, but this usually occurs within larger systems with locksmiths involved.

Quick change shackle

The padlock series features dual ball bearings and an 8.7mm hardened steel shackle with quick-change functionality. To remove or change the shackle, rotate the key fully and depress a small pin located on the back of the body, near the top.

Convertible key-retaining status

334 cores can be swapped between key-retaining and non-key-retaining by relocating a small pin fitted in the cam of the core. If no pin is present, the padlock operates as non-key-retaining. 334 actuators are of a non-bypassable design.

Vulnerabilities

When fitted with the stock 334 cylinder, this series of locks may be vulnerable to the following:

• Lockpicking
• Impressioning
• Key bumping

Disassembly

1. Unlock the padlock.
2. Remove the retaining screw down the open shackle hole to release the cylinder.

Further disassembly is usually not required and can be difficult given the quick-change shackle mechanism. The shackle can be released via quick-change functionality described in #Features and pins can now be readily accessed with the core removed.
