Name S&G 8500
Manufacturer Sargent & Greenleaf
Lock Type Safe lock
Lock Design Combination

The 8500 is a UL Group 1 combination lock made by Sargent and Greenleaf. It is mainly used on safes and vaults.

Principles of Operation

The 8500 uses a spring mechanism to prevent the fence from touching the wheel pack during dialing. There is a U-shaped spring connecting the lever to the case. Unless the gates are aligned properly, this spring will not allow the nose to rest on the drive cam.
