Medeco is an American lock manufacturer that produces medium and high security padlocks, lock cylinders, and electronic locks. Medeco is one of the most well known American lock manufacturers. Medeco locks are used in a wide variety of high-security installations, including banks, prisons, and military compounds, namely armories. Medeco are best known for their pin-tumbler locks that provide axial rotation to interface with a sidebar.
Medeco is owned by the ASSA-Abloy group.
History
Medeco was founded in Roanoke Country, Virginia in 1968 by members of a tool and die shop called Mechanical Development Company; shortened to "Medeco".[1] The company's original invention was a pin-tumbler lock that required pins to be raised and rotated properly to allow the lock to open. This principle came to be known as axial rotation. The majority of Medeco's product line evolved from and focus on this principle.
In 1997 Medeco began producing electronic locks in the form of the Medeco SiteLine.
