History
Miwa can trace its roots to a munitions factory (Miwa Kogyo) founded by its creator, Wake Ichiro, in 1935. They incorporated in 1945. After the war, the company was demilitarized and for a while made cutting tools for lawnmowers. In 1950, on the request of the Bank of Japan, they started research on keys and key technology. They formally changed their name to Miwa Locks in 1972.
