Detainers
A detainer is a generic term for a component of a lock that restricts the ability to actuate (lock or unlock) the lock in some way. Use of the term is highly contextual and may refer to:
- The primary lock components, such as pins, levers, discs, etc.
- Secondary, internal mechanisms that restrict lock operation, such as sidebars, detainer levers, the Disc Blocking System in the Abloy Protec, etc.
- The components that fasten the lock to a container, such as a bolt or shackle
